  • Canceled: What Stanford Didn't Teach You – Learn How to Get Your Foot in the Door
    Thursday, March 26, 2020 - 06:15 PM

Are you a recent grad looking for the first job? Are you in a job transition? Do you find yourself submitting your resume everywhere but not getting a response?

In this next part of our “What Stanford Didn’t Teach You” career series, Mauri Schwartz (President/CEO Career Insiders) will discuss ways of developing a job search strategy that will land you the interview.

In the current market, it is not enough to post your resume on the Internet or company website and wait for a response. By submitting your resume in response to a job posting, you may be trying to enter the same door at the same time as hundreds of others. Even if you are better qualified, how will you even be noticed? This talk teaches you how to grab the attention of the hiring manager…how to use LinkedIn and other networking strategies to grab the attention of the right person.

Come early and be prepared to make connections! Light snacks and beverages will be provided. Don’t forget those business cards- you’ll need them for the drawing after the program.

  • Canceled: Raising a Well-Balanced Student: Avoiding a Culture of Stress
    Tuesday, April 7, 2020 - 06:30 PM

Parents define success for their child by wanting them to grow up to be happy, healthy people with fulfilling careers and meaningful relationships. More often than not, however, middle and high school students respond with a focus on test scores, earning admission into a good college, and getting a high-paying job. High pressure and incredible stress at school can interfere with the development of important life skills – the ability to be independent, adaptable, ethical, motivated, and critical thinkers.

Dr. Denise Clark Pope, ’88, PhD ’99, senior lecturer from the Graduate School of Education, will discuss her research on academic pressure in schools, ways to reduce stress without sacrificing achievement, and strategies to increase resilience, creativity, and well-being for every student.

Registration includes a light reception that will precede this event.
