Stanford Professional Women of Los Angeles hosted a festive, traditional tea on December 3, 2017 at Chado Tea House in Hollywood. Our group of twenty-five guests included Stanford alumni from a range of years, alumni friends, and parents of current students and Stanford alumni. Because we had a large group for this event, we were able to reserve Chado’s inside tea room and enjoy a private tea. Our annual holiday tea, hosted at different locations around the Los Angeles area, has become a yearly tradition for SPWLA and is always a special event for our guests.
Before the tea service began we had time to visit with our guests and tablemates, and to share our activities during the past year and plans for the upcoming holidays. One of our highlights was the chance to talk with current Stanford students’ parents, and to recall how Stanford has evolved since we graduated, adding new resources, buildings and programs. It was a lovely reminder of how exciting it was to attend Stanford and how special the Stanford experience is for current students.
Chado presented a lovely tea, complete with service on traditional tiered plate stands and china tea pots. Our first course was homemade scones with jam and cream, served with a delicate white Champagne tea. The Champagne tea turned out to be a guest favorite, and some guests bought this tea to take home. Our second course was a variety of delicious tea sandwiches. One of our table favorites was the English cucumber sandwich, delicate and refreshing. We were served a variety of teas from light to robust during the sandwich course. We finished our tea with dessert, including mini tarts and cookies, and of course more tea.
SPWLA President, Melissa Hsiao ’11, prepared gift boxes with chocolates and candies for each of our guests to take home. This was a delightful surprise, complete with warm wishes for the holidays.
