Stanford Professional Women of Los Angeles

President’s Letter – October 2016

Dear SPWLA members,

In honor of fall we discussed life transitions at the San Fernando Valley regional dinner. The event was attended by women at different life stages with a variety of experiences, challenges and wisdom to share. These are the experiences I cherish most about being involved with SPWLA! With each event I encounter interesting, inspiring people and learn something enriching. I hope those of you who were able to attend the other regional dinner locations had a great time at your events as well!

SPWLA member, Suzanne Chase’s life story fits perfectly with our transitional fall season. Learn about her departure from and return to Stanford in this month’s member spotlight article.

This year we are working to create opportunities for members to connect in settings that are more informal and less structured setting. These events are intended to gathering people with more focused interests. Below is a list interest groups that we are exploring. Please contact me at kcrawley@alumni.stanford.edu if you are interested in heading one of these or any other interest groups:

  • Technical (Science, engineering, etc.)
  • Finance
  • Law
  • Marketing
  • Education
  • Entertainment
  • Authors
  • Psychology
  • Health Sciences
  • Design/fashion
  • Local government
  • Management

With busy life schedules, we are not always available to make SPWLA events. Despite these challenges, SPWLA strives to provide opportunities for people to connect. All members are entitled to a free listing in our business directory. The SPWLA business directory is a location for you to find services offered by fellow SPWLA members as well as a networking resource.   Click here to check out the business directory listings. Be sure to check back as listings are added continuously. If you are interested in participating, contact Jennifer Ma to submit your directory listing.

As always, we are open to your ideas and suggestions. Any level of participation is welcomed and encouraged. Special thanks to Peggy Sheridan who has submitted a handful of program ideas! October features a trip to the Museum of Tolerance on Sunday, October 16. Click here for details on this and other upcoming events.

I look forward to seeing you throughout the year!

Best,

Kari Crawley
