One of our SPWLA members, Monique Reece – who is also the President of the Stanford Club of the Inland Empire – took an interesting route to her current career at a CPA firm. While at Stanford, she was drawn to Women’s Studies and History, so she pursued a degree in Feminist Studies. After she graduated, she went to school to attain a PhD in Women’s Studies because she thought she wanted to become a professor of Women’s History. Instead, she ended up as an accountant at a CPA firm. She has found that while the subject matter of her Feminist Studies courses doesn’t apply to her job, the analytical aspect of her studies does. Reece finds her work at Goodrich, Thomas, Cannon & Reeds, LLP very rewarding, and in particular, enjoys working face-to-face with clients at her firm. The one takeaway she hopes for readers is that working at a CPA firm is surprisingly interesting despite popular belief!
